October 15, 2017 at 1:54 pmI would choose a fire starter since once I have a fire I could keep warm, find a container to boil water, cook food, fend of animals.

October 10, 2017 at 4:52 pmWater filter would probably be the wisest choice. Almost nothing sucks like being sick from bad water

October 5, 2017 at 5:22 amI would bring the Katadyn BeFree! Simply because I could make shelter with fallen trees and leaves. Then make a fire with the brush. Clean water is absolutely important.

October 3, 2017 at 9:59 pmI’d bring a hammock and call it a getaway 🙂

September 30, 2017 at 4:53 pmHmm… I am notoriously indecisive! I’m going to go with a knife. Plus a fire starter. Sorry that’s two things! The water filter looks awesome, I’ve been looking at getting something bigger for group trips and car camping, etc – fingers crossed!!

September 30, 2017 at 4:37 pmWell if its a dessert island a titanium spork obviously to enjoy its bounty! oh you said desert…. in that case maybe a kayak… na I still want the titanium spork.

September 29, 2017 at 11:46 pmI would choose a comfortable and warm sleeping bag. I can make shelter with found objects. Hard to make something warm or semi comfortable to sleep on from the woods!

September 29, 2017 at 11:19 pmP.S. – Dave, I 100% promise I INTENDED for the last line to be about ESCAPING the island. After I wrote it, I was driving to my son’s soccer practice and started laughing to myself realizing what I had done. I am now sitting here, blushing, and embarrassed! Reckon that banana hammock has already made me chuckle!
Josh
September 29, 2017 at 10:50 pmWhile not necessarily a piece of outdoor gear, I feel, in this situation, I’d 100% go with a banana hammock. Why? Should I find myself in such a situation, I feel that may the only time in my life when I’d have the courage to wear said item and, in such a situation, I would want to do anything that I could to get a little chuckle (and, of course this would remind me of one of my good running buddies, so I’d be primed to asked myself, “What would McDuffie do in this situation?”). The ONLY downside to this article is that, assuming I don’t have a backpack, it would mighty difficult to carry my brand new Katadyn BeFree 3.0L water filter. On the upside, I’m assuming this item would be so uncomfortably tight, that I could put any number of items in the waist strap (and, perhaps other places) and they’d remain in place. In the end, if nothing else, I’d be able to start future stories off with, “Once, while stranded on a desert I was able to use a banana hammock to get myself off.” I can live with that.

September 29, 2017 at 8:09 pmI picked up a BeFree 0.6L a few months ago, as a backup water source for longer treks. Love it! It’s crazy how fast water flows thru it, like almost no resistance at all.
Can’t decide on one people of gear. Either a machete or matches.

September 29, 2017 at 8:05 pmA satellite phone seems like a cop-out answer, so I’d say a working water filter, honestly. Can’t survive long without water!
Tony Kuhnell
September 29, 2017 at 8:02 pmI’ll have to go with a charged satellite phone to make a rescue possible.
P.S. – my Instagram is PISTX if I happen to win.

September 29, 2017 at 7:34 pmHi Dave! Thanks for putting on this give away. I love my 1L Katadyn BeFree – it has completely replaced my Sawyer Squeeze. I would love to have the 3L version for longer or group trips. As for my answer to the question, “You’re stranded on a desert island. You’re allowed to have a single piece of outdoor gear with you. What would it be?” I would have to go with my Enlightened Equipment Revelation Quilt. It is sooo cozy and versatile. Plus, I really had to save up for it and the customization of it really makes it feel like “mine” – ya know?
